Chimp Television was born out of Creative Director Richard Hammond’s curiosity for EVERYTHING and his love of programme making. Founded in 2018, Chimp has evolved into a thriving inde where story telling is at the heart of everything we do.

Our passionate and dedicated team bring decades of experience in the factual arena, combined with the Chimp like qualities of being naturally inquisitive and playful to each and every project. Engineering, History, the Natural world, Adventure and yes even Cars!

Amongst other highlights, Chimp are the proud producers of Richard Hammond’s Workshop and have created programming Worldwide for Discovery, Amazon and Channel 4.

The Challenge

  • Chimp’s headcount fluctuates throughout the year based on the TV productions currently filming. This means high numbers of contractors are joining / leaving the organisation at short notice each month. A flexible approach was needed to provide IT support services to their team, particularly those using their own devices (BYOD) on short term contracts, whilst a scalable & flexible pricing structure.
  • A higher level of IT support for all employees with a faster response time.
  • A full range of cyber security policies needed to be set up and implemented to protect company information by controlling the way users access and share information.

Our Solution

Stage 1 – Flexible & Scalable Contracts

  • Systems IT manage the Microsoft Office 365 New Commerce Experience environment, offering a mix of monthly rolling and annual commitment licences. This allows Chimp TV to flex their Microsoft licence count, and costs, based on staffing levels each month.
  • A flexible pricing contract was agreed allowing Chimp to only pay for IT support services for employees/contractors currently employed on live productions.

Stage 2 – Service Levels Enhanced

  • Improved Service levels with a faster response to issues for their Team
  • Inclusion of support for users with their own mobile devices (BYOD)

Stage 3 – Security Policy Implementation

To provide a secure network for the company, we

  • Implemented Microsoft Intune Security policies to manage/control access to their IT environment (data/email) with specific compliance conditions. One of these was ensuring there was no network access unless they were using a company device or authorised encrypted devices.
  • Allowed BYOD contractors via Intune access to corporate data & applications on the IT network. This allows Chimp TV to control their data and maintain the integrity of the IT network when accessed from BYOD devices that aren’t theirs.
  • Cyber Essentials Accreditation We managed the process to ensure that the accreditation was gained (and we will ensure it is renewed on an annual basis)
  • Implemented our Silver Security Package which includes –
    • Microsoft 365 Security Monitoring – including tracking, alerting, and reporting on Office 365 usage & performance to help minimise and identify the chance of compromised user accounts.
    • Dark Web Monitoring – Chimp TV’s domain credentials are monitored to determine if any privileged user credentials linked to the domain have been exposed or shared because of a third-party data breach.

The Results

Chimp Television is now able to work securely with frequently changing teams in locations around the world. They have complete control of their network, whilst still providing access to the people who need it.
