International aid for youth charity
Youth charity Y Care International needed a global solution for a problematic IT infrastructure
Their Challenges
An ageing local IT infrastructure meant their IT was unreliable and insecure. Local servers were out of warranty and running out of date server OS. They were using Terminal Services to remotely access the server for files. Office 365 was being used purely for email. Devices running out-of-date operating systems meant productivity was lower than it could be too.
With a team of 20 people working in London and partners around the world, many of who travel regularly and also work from home; they needed an IT solution that maximised flexibility and productivity, whilst ensuring IT security was maximised.
As a charity, they also needed to ensure they got maximum value from the assets and the infrastructure.
Our Solution
Systems IT implemented a Hybrid Cloud solution for Y Care International; a combination of local server infrastructure and Cloud services
”“The support and advice we received from Systems IT was professional and
- Malcolm Lloyd, Director of Finance & Resources
appropriate to our needs, creating a solution that was both robust and efficient
whilst also being cost effective. Systems IT staff worked diligently and were
reactive to questions and queries that arose from our staff during the process.
Their patience and dedication is much appreciated”
Local Infrastructure
Some systems only need to be accessed by Head Office staff and the lifetime cost of a cloud solution made it more cost effective to provide a new local server infrastructure for this part of their requirements. The Sage server was only three years old, so the warranty was extended to allow Y Care to sweat the asset, adding remote access using Terminal Services and Remote Desktop licenses.
A new Sophos Firewall, including Intrusion Prevention Services, was installed to replace their older device. Sandstorm was added to prevent Zero Day attacks.
All workstations and laptops were either upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 (where specification and age allowed) or replaced with Windows 10 Pro devices.
Cloud
All files and user accounts were migrated onto Office 365 and SharePoint to enable remote and flexible working around the world. Multi-factor authentication was added to ensure that only authorised users can use their upgraded devices and access the data.
A Datto backup solution provides business continuity and disaster recovery, in case something should happen.
The Results
Y Care International now has an IT infrastructure that provides the security, flexibility and remote working capabilities that a globally working organisation needs. In the event of a device being lost, it can quickly be blocked to maintain data security; essential for maintaining the integrity of their data and meeting GDPR requirements. The ongoing subscriptionbased OPEX costs for the SharePoint hosting is much more financially beneficial for Y Care.
